Embyronic Stem Cell Research Petition: on Monday, July 7, our opposition, Cure Michigan Ballot Question Committee, submitted more than 570,000 signatures to the Michigan Secretary of State to put live human embryo destruction on the November statewide ballot. Michigan Citizens Against Unrestricted Science and Experimentation (MiCAUSE) is in place to provide accurate information so citizens can be informed about the proposed constitutional amendment to allow unrestricted and unregulated research in Michigan. We have a website which offers information on how the proposal is deliberately deceptive, does not ban cloning, and permits unrestricted science. Visit the website and pass it on to others: http://www.micause.com
Governor Vetoes Partial Birth Abortion Ban: Time and experience have proven that the procedure known as partial birth abortion poses serious health risks to the mother and to date, has never been medically necessary to preserve the health of the mother. The procedure involves the vaginal birth of the child until the head emerges from its mother. At that point, the child is killed and then delivered dead. Physicians have an interest in preserving the health and life of both the mother and child. This procedure clearly "confuses the medical, legal and ethical duties of a physician to preserve and promote life." PBA is "broadly disfavored by medical experts" and the public. There is no consensus among obstetricians that it is ever medically necessary because it has never been evaluated as to its medical advantages or disadvantages. However, on June 13, Granholm vetoed this ban that had passed the legislature and that has been proven to be what the citizens of Michigan want.
